A double shooting Saturday night in the 7th Ward left a 27-year-old man dead and a 24-year-old woman wounded, New Orleans police said.
In a separate incident, also in the 7th Ward, an unidentified man was shot dead in the 1400 block of Frenchmen Street early Sunday morning.
The earlier incident happened about 10 p.m. Saturday at North Broad and Treasure streets, said Officer Frank Robertson, a spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department.
Officers were called out to investigate reports of a “man down” in the street, Robertson said.
They discovered that the man was a passenger in a white Infiniti being driven by the female victim. Police said the two had picked up another man, who then produced a gun and fired several shots at both the man and the woman.
The 27-year-old man was shot several times. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Robertson said the woman drove herself to the hospital after being shot in the arm and the leg. She was reported to be in stable condition.
Neighbors in the area said Sunday morning that they heard sirens and saw an ambulance Saturday night but hadn’t witnessed the shooting.
According to resident Raul Gonzalez, a 51-year-old construction worker, the neighborhood has been subject to much gun violence and other crime recently.
“Sometimes it’s crazy,” Gonzalez said about the immediate area. He said he has lived there for five years.
Homicide Detective Clinton Givens is in charge of the murder investigation.
In the Frenchmen Street incident, police received reports of a “man down” on the sidewalk just after midnight, Robertson said.
The man was unresponsive by the time the officers arrived. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Homicide Detective Andrew Waldron is in charge of the investigation.
Police ask anyone with information on either shooting to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
