Police: Man arrested after firing at officers

A man was arrested late Thursday after he allegedly fired at New Orleans police officers investigating reports of a suspicious person in Uptown.

Heron George, 18, was arrested in the 2800 block of Amelia Street after a brief search using police dogs.

Police set up a perimeter to find him after the shooting, which occurred about 10 p.m. in the 3400 block of Clara Street.

While George fired at officers, they did not return fire. No officers were injured, and George’s gun was recovered, according to a daily police log.

George was booked on two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, a count of possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, possession of cocaine and a probation violation, according to Orleans Parish court records.

Shooting in Gentilly kills 36-year-old man

A 36-year-old man died of multiple gunshot wounds late Thursday in Gentilly Woods.

The shooting was reported about 11:45 p.m. in the 4400 block of Congress Drive. Michael Green was pronounced dead at the scene, Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse said.

Police did not identify a suspect or motive.

Homicide Detective Elizabeth Garcia is in charge of the investigation.

Unknown man shot to death in St. Roch

A 35-year-old man was found shot to death Friday afternoon in the St. Roch neighborhood, New Orleans police said.

The victim was shot about 3:15 p.m. inside a residence in the 2800 block of North Rocheblave Street, said Officer Garry Flot, a Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found the victim on the floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Homicide Detective Bruce Brueggeman is in charge of the investigation.
