COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER: New Orleans East Louisiana, or NOELA, has opened a 9,000-square-foot community health center to provide primary care for adults and children at 13085 Chef Menteur Highway, New Orleans. Its hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Its phone numbers are (504) 255-8665 for adult care and (504) 309-8390 for pediatrics.
NOELA built the clinic as part of a $105 million program that was part of the environmental and medical legal settlement with BP in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. With one in three people living in eastern New Orleans working in the seafood industry, the spill has disproportionately affected the health and livelihood of people there.
“Our new facility will allow us to increase our health care services for the deserving residents of New Orleans,” said Diem Nguyen, chief executive officer of NOELA Community Health Center. “Our wonderful team of highly trained doctors, nurses and social workers will continue to provide high quality, affordable, primary and preventive health care services to the residents of this community.”
The clinic is equipped with state-of-the art technology, employs trilingual workers, and will substantially expand services for patients.
