U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo on Thursday sentenced a bookkeeper who confessed to embezzling $715,000 from a community health charity to 30 months in prison.

The bookkeeper, Patricia Blanchard, pleaded guilty to mail fraud in March for taking the money from Community Health Charities of Louisiana and Mississippi, a charity run by her husband, George Blanchard.

Blanchard wrote notes on checks like “Cancer Research Institute” and “March of Dimes” while she embezzled the money to pay her own credit card bills, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite.

Blanchard also was ordered to pay back all of the money she took.
