SLIDELL MOVIE NIGHT: A recent popular animated feature will be presented free during Slidell Movie Night at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Heritage Park, 1001 Bayou Lane in Slidell.

Moviegoers are invited to bring chairs, blankets, ice chests and bug spray to the park to enjoy the movie. Concessions will be available for $1, including hot dogs, popcorn, chips and candy. Pets, barbecue grills and glass are prohibited in the park.

MY GIRL FRIENDS CLOSET: My Girl Friend’s Closet, an upscale boutique that resells gently used clothes to benefit the families of the East St. Tammany Rainbow Childcare Center, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 5; and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at 881 Robert Blvd. (behind Domino’s Pizza) in Slidell.

The day to drop off donations for upcoming sales is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the last Thursday of the month. The boutique is run yearround by volunteers. There is no sale in July.

PREVENTING FINANCIAL ABUSE OF ELDERS: A free workshop on preventing financial exploitation of senior adults will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Castine Center in Mandeville.

This workshop is intended to help senior adults identify potential frauds and give them tools for protection. It is sponsored by the SALT Council.

“Financial exploitation represents over 65 percent of all elder abuse,” said SALT Council Chairman Ralph Oneal, “and that immense proportion of abuse is a direct result of the aging of our society, an issue that will get larger, not smaller.”

HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS: Slidell Memorial Hospital is accepting applications for its summer junior volunteer program until June 10. Junior volunteers must be at least 15 years old, attend a mandatory orientation and volunteer a minimum of 40 hours over the summer to graduate from the program.
