Stranded motorist carjacked in Algiers _lowres

During the early afternoon hours of Aug. 14, 2015, officers responded to a residence burglary in the 2700 block of Cypress Lawn Drive in Marrero. In a follow-up investigation conducted by Burglary Detective Shane Taylor, it was determined the man gained entry into the residence after breaking a window. Once inside, the man stole several items of jewelry.

Stranded motorist carjacked in Algiers

A motorist changing a tire was carjacked Wednesday in Algiers by two people who stopped to supposedly ask if he needed help, according to New Orleans police.

It happened about 2:30 p.m. near Behrman Highway and Garden Oaks Drive.

The 54-year-old man told police that one of the suspects approached him with a gun and demanded his vehicle after he had finished changing the tire.

In an apparently unrelated incident, a 21-year-old man was driving near the same intersection about five hours later “when he heard gunshots and discovered he had been shot,” according to a police log.

NOPD: Man shot Thursday in Algiers

A 41-year-old man was shot Thursday afternoon in Algiers, New Orleans police said.

It happened after 3 p.m. near General de Gaulle and Shirley drives.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police seek burglar in Jefferson Parish

Authorities in Jefferson Parish on Thursday were trying to identify a man who broke into a home in Marrero last week and stole several pieces of jewelry.

The burglary happened Aug. 14 in the 2700 block of Cypress Lawn Drive.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the unidentified man entered the home by breaking a window. Surveillance video from the residence captured images of a white Chevrolet extended-cab pickup with damage to the front bumper.

The Sheriff’s Office described the burglar as a white man in his 20s or 30s with dark hair, wearing a blue tank top and sunglasses. He was said to have a large cross tattooed on his left arm and a large tattoo on his back that partially reads “In Loving Memory of.”

Brothers busted in pawn shop heist

Two Marrero brothers accused of swiping three handguns from a pawn shop have been arrested in Jefferson Parish.

Frederick Bennett, 34, and Dedrick Bennett, 21, were booked on two counts each of theft of a firearm.

Authorities said the theft happened Aug. 14 at the Cash American Pawn Shop on Lapalco Boulevard. The brothers are accused of prying open the glass doors of display cases in the store to remove the weapons, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The thefts were captured on surveillance video.

Investigators found fingerprints from the shop matching both brothers, said Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. Fortunato said both brothers later confessed to the thefts.

Woman reports sexual assault from years ago

A 56-year-old woman told New Orleans police Wednesday that she had been sexually assaulted as a juvenile.

A police log said the incident happened in the 7th Ward. No further details were available.

Man reports being stabbed in N.O. East

A 24-year-old man was stabbed early Thursday in New Orleans East, police said.

It happened about 2:25 a.m. near Interstate 10 and Chef Menteur Highway.

The man told authorities he’d been picked up by an “unknown female who stabbed him the back of his head,” according to a police log.
