The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office reports that a 25-year-old Kenner man was killed on Thursday when he drove his car into the back of a tow truck in the 100 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie.
A 25-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital with minor injuries.
Witnesses told JPSO that the car, a 2003 Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound in the right lane about 5:35 p.m. when it was seen “abruptly changing lanes prior to striking the tow truck that was stopped in the center lane due to traffic waiting for the red light to change at the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Lake Avenue,” a news release said.
Fatality investigator Anthony Cannatella said a witness who wished to remain anonymous reported that the driver of the Nissan was seen throwing a small black object into bushes on the side of Veterans Boulevard moments before the accident. Crime scene technicians later found a black coin purse containing several hypodermic needles, two spoons, a lighter and an empty bottle of super glue.
UPDATE: 10:56 p.m. - JPSO identified the driver as Timothy Arabi, 25, of 1909 Maryland Avenue in Kenner.
