Anyone traveling west from New Orleans on Interstate 10 late Saturday night and early Sunday will have to detour just after Kenner and get back on the highway at LaPlace while crews install a sign, the state Department of Transportation and Development said.

The closure will begin at 8 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.

Westbound traffic will be rerouted to Interstate 310, then to U.S. 61 and then to U.S. 51 in LaPlace.

The work is part of a $1.3 million project to upgrade emergency crossings in St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes.

The closure will allow the contractor, Diamond Electrical Co. Inc., to install a sign near the I-10 and I-55 interchange.
