JPSO deputy injured by suspected drunk driver
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured by a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning in Metairie, Sheriff Newell Normand reported.
Deputy Sean Williams was parked at North Turnbull Drive and Veterans Boulevard, where he was working a movie detail, when a drunk driver slammed into the back of his car as he sat inside it about 2:20 a.m., the sheriff said.
Williams suffered a broken right leg and cuts to the face and mouth. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Deputies arrested Metairie resident Rachel Gremillion, 33, and booked her with DWI, negligent injury and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Gremillion suffered a broken ankle in the crash, said Glen Boyd, a JPSO spokesman.
Police report two aggravated rapes
New Orleans police reported two aggravated rapes involving underage girls Friday.
In the first incident, an 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted about 2:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Tonti Street.
Later Friday, about 10:30 p.m., a 12-year-old girl told police she had been having consensual sex with a 27-year-old man, police said. The crime was reported at Louisiana Avenue and Freret Street.
Police say Gentilly robber shot by victim
A victim shot his robber after the man held him up Friday evening in Gentilly, police said.
Police arrested the alleged robber, 22-year-old Samuel Sims, after the incident.
The 28-year-old victim was in the 3000 block of Bruxelles Street about 6 p.m. when Sims approached him and demanded his belongings, police said.
The victim gave him his cellphone, but Sims wanted more. The victim then pulled out a gun and shot Sims.
Man shot Friday in New Orleans East
A man was shot about 12:30 p.m. Friday in New Orleans East.
The 21-year-old man was walking along the train tracks in the 8000 block of Trapier Avenue when an unknown man approached him, police said. The gunman, wearing a trench coat, opened fire on the victim and struck him.
Friday armed robbery reported in Bywater
A 22-year-old woman was held up at gunpoint Friday night in the Bywater, police said.
She was at Piety and Royal streets just after 7:30 p.m. when she was approached by a strange man who demanded her purse. She complied.
Man robbed at gunpoint Thursday
A man was robbed at gunpoint in New Orleans East on Thursday night, police said.
The 25-year-old victim was in the 14500 block of Duane Road about 9 p.m. when he was approached by two men who demanded his money. He complied, and the men fled.
New Orleans bar fight leads to stabbing
A bar fight escalated to a stabbing in the St. Roch neighborhood late Friday night, New Orleans police said.
A 41-year-old man was in a bar at St. Roch Avenue and Marais Street just before midnight when he began fighting with someone, police said.
The victim was kicked out of the bar, and the other person followed him outside, broke a bottle and stabbed him with it.
Shooting reported on Metairie street
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported a shooting Saturday morning in Metairie.
A man was shot in the 3600 block of Division Street. His wounds were not life threatening.
The crime was reported by 911 headquarters about 11 a.m.
Veterans business robbed Saturday night
A Smoothie Time shop in Metairie was robbed by someone with a knife Saturday night, according to Jefferson Parish 911 headquarters.
The robbery at the shop in the 3900 block of Veterans Boulevard was reported about 7 p.m. No one was injured.
