Police say a man cutting grass near Louisa Street and Interstate 10 on Monday discovered the badly decomposed bodies of an adult woman and a boy of about 4 or 5.

More than a dozen law enforcement vehicles had arrived at the scene by Monday afternoon, and police were scouring the grass for clues. The westbound highway ramp at Louisa had been shut down.

Officer Frank Robertson, a spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department, said investigators had not been able to determine a cause of death for either of the bodies. He said they had likely been where they were found for at least several days.

“The bodies are badly decomposed and we’re going to have to move them to find out if there’s any trauma,” Robertson said.
