Eight people shot, two fatally, in string of shootings Tuesday in New Orleans _lowres

In the latest wave of New Orleans gun violence, eight people were shot, two of them fatally, on Tuesday.

Several of the survivors were reported to be in critical condition.

It all started when a 39-year-old man and his 2-year-old nephew were shot about 5 p.m. in the 1700 block of Laharpe Street. The man died later at the hospital. The 2-year-old was not believed to be seriously wounded.

A 19-year-old man was fatally shot and three other men were shot and critically wounded about 7 p.m. at the intersection of Olive and Fern streets.

One man was shot multiple times in the 1400 block of Lafreniere Street about 6 p.m. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

About 9 p.m., a man was shot and wounded in the 500 block of South Cortez Street.

In addition, a man was in critical condition after being shot Tuesday evening in the 1100 block of Scotsdale Drive in Harvey, and a man was stabbed to death early Tuesday in the 3000 block of Clouet Street in New Orleans. A woman was arrested and booked on a count of murder in the stabbing.
