A Pearl River man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 10 near Slidell at about 9 p.m. Sunday night as he was walking away from his vehicle, which was having mechanical problems, State Police said.

Ricky Nunez, 46, was traveling east on I-10 when his vehicle began having problems. He stopped on the right shoulder near Oak Harbor Boulevard and after parking began to walk along the right shoulder of the highway, troopers determined.

But when Nunez crossed interstate towards the center median, he was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by David Wolfe, 25, of Slidell.

The driver braked heavily to avoid hitting Nunez, but was not successful. As he decelerated, his Silverado was hit in the rear by a 2005 Land Rover driven by Dreux Seghers, 52, of Ocean Springs, Miss.

Nunez was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers are continuing their investigation but no charges were filed. Wolfe and Seghers both tested negative for alcohol on a breath alcohol test.
