New Orleans police reported four armed robberies and a burglary across the area Saturday and Sunday.
The first incident occurred Friday afternoon in the Garden District around 2:30 p.m. According to NOPD, a 65-year-old woman was unloading her car in the 2700 block of Constance Street when a man put a gun to her head and took her keys out of her hand. The man could not get the vehicle to start, so he fled.
The second incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields when a 29-year-old man was in a Lowe’s parking lot. An armed man exited a silver Chevrolet Impala, put a gun to the victim’s head, stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone, then fled.
About a half hour later on the edge of the French Quarter in the 900 block of Barracks Street, a 31-year-old man was approached by 2 men while walking. The men demanded his property, and the victim complied. The robbers fled with cash and the victim’s iPhone.
At 1 a.m. Saturday, there was a burglary in Algiers involving 11 victims, one whom was shot.
According to NOPD, the victims had just returned home and heard a knock at the door. A 29-year-old woman opened the door and saw three men in ski masks, thinking it was a prank. The men rushed in, pointing guns at the victims. A 26-year-old woman ran to the back bedroom and hid in the bathroom with another victim. One of the burglars ran behind her and kicked the bedroom door down and then tried to kick the bathroom door down but failed. The burglar fired 2 shots through the bathroom door, grazing the 26-year-old woman.
All three burglars fled empty-handed, NOPD said.
The fifth incident occurred on the edge of the French Quarter near the intersection of Basin and Canal streets around 3 a.m. A 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were approached by an man, who put a gun to the woman's head and demanded money. The male victim gave the robber his wallet, and the robber fled.
