An Orleans Parish inmate who during the weekend left his postat a grocery store where he was employed as part of a work-release program is back in custody.
About 1 p.m. Tuesday, Walter Ross was found in the 400 block of North Prieur Street, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Ross, 53, was reported missing about 3:20 p.m. Sunday from a grocery store where he was working. The Sheriff’s Office did not say where the store is located.
Ross is serving a five-year sentence for simple robbery. He was set to be released Dec. 18, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office said.
He entered the Transitional Work Program, which allows inmates who are closed to their release date an opportunity to work at local businesses, Sept. 2 and had no prior violations.
He now faces additional charges of simple escape and will no longer be allowed to work in the program.
