Sex offender fails to register with JPSO

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a sex offender who has failed to register with authorities.

Kenneth Lee Smith, who also is known as Kenneth L. Jackson and Kenny L. Smith, has been wanted since May 7.

He was convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile, the Sheriff’s Office said. The female victim was 14 at the time.

Smith is required by law to register as a sex offender based on that conviction.

He has two prior convictions for failure to register as a sex offender.

Investigators believe Smith’s relatives are assisting him in avoiding capture, the Sheriff’s Office said.

His last registered address was at a family member’s home in Kenner, but authorities do not believe he ever resided at that address.

Anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (504) 364-5300, U.S. Marshals at (504) 589-6872 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
