Two men sought in Central City kidnapping
Police are searching for two men responsible for a carjacking and kidnapping of a child Wednesday night in Central City. The child was found safe in Treme a few minutes later.
The victim and a friend, who were in separate cars, pulled into a gas station in the 2100 block of South Claiborne Avenue about 10:30 p.m. so the victim could get gas, police said.
The victim left his keys in the ignition and his 2-year-old daughter inside his car while his friend stood by on the other side of a gas pump.
The victim went inside the store to pay for the gas when two unknown men drove into the parking lot in a red Chrysler PT Cruiser.
The driver of that vehicle got into the victim’s car and drove away.
The passenger in the PT Cruiser got into the driver’s seat of that vehicle and followed the stolen car, which still had the girl inside it.
Police said the victim and his friend tried to chase down the stolen car but lost sight of it.
About 10:45 p.m., someone saw the victim’s daughter walking on the sidewalk near St. Louis and Treme streets.
That person brought the child to the 1st District police station, where she was later reunited with her father.
The stolen vehicle is a black 2003 Infiniti G35 with Louisiana license plate XXM 725 and vehicle identification number JNKCV51E73M318490. A black or gray Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun was inside the car, police said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
