City job fair to focus on disaster recovery

The city of New Orleans will host a Disaster Recovery Business and Employment Information Job Fair from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the JOB1 office at 3400 Tulane Ave.

Open house planned on St. Charles zoning

The St. Charles Parish Planning and Zoning Department will host an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 4 in the Parish Council chambers at the Hahnville courthouse to discuss proposed changes to the parish’s zoning ordinance.

The address is 15045 River Road.

The parish’s zoning ordinance was adopted in 1981. In August 2014, the Parish Council approved a cooperative endeavor agreement with the University of New Orleans’ Planning and Urban Studies Department to revise and update the code to reflect modern-day needs.

The proposed changes under phase I of the project seek to update technical aspects of the zoning ordinance and its organization.

Recommended changes include updated standards for landscaping, required parking and stormwater runoff compliance for commercial developments; revisions to residential zoning districts to accommodate multiple housing types; and increased transparency, predictability and consistency with regard to the development review process.

Phase II will evaluate permitted uses and the organizational structure of various zoning districts.

To view the current zoning code, log on to stcharles parish-la.gov and click on “Code of Ordinances.” The zoning ordinance is labeled Appendix A.

The proposed changes will be available on the news section of the parish website beginning Thursday.
