Armed robbers held up the Family Dollar store at Elysian Fields and North Claiborne avenues Tuesday night, New Orleans police said.

Police said two men entered the store about 10 p.m., demanded money from the registers and fled with the cash.

Officers arrested four men about 10:10 p.m. in a Chevy Malibu they believed was fleeing the scene of the robbery. The license plate on the car showed it had been reported stolen.

Officers stopped the car, Officer Garry Flot said, and saw the front passenger put a handgun underneath his seat.

Ernest Cloud, 20, was booked on possession of a stolen auto, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a parole violation. Ronnie Davis, 20, was booked on possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and a parole violation. Tyrone Scott, 21, was booked on illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Nelson Taylor, 22, was booked on the same count as Scott.

Officers were unable to connect the four to the budget store robbery.

In a separate incident Tuesday night, an armed robber held up a man, 31, just before midnight in the 3100 block of St. Philip Street in the Bayou St. John neighborhood. The man emptied his pockets, and the robber drove away.
