Three shootings, including one that killed a 22-year-old woman, and six armed robberies were reported during a violent 24 hours in New Orleans, police said.
The first shooting happened around 7:36 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of St. Roch Avenue, the New Orleans Police Department said in a preliminary offense log. A 22-year-old man was sitting on a porch when suspects drove by and opened fire, striking the man in the foot. Police did not give a number of suspects or an update on the victim’s condition.
Less than an hour later, around 8:20 p.m., an adult male was shot in the buttocks in the 1400 block of Murl Street, NOPD said. No further information was given.
The final shooting of the night happened around 9 p.m. in the 3700 block of Clio Street. A 22-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead, NOPD said.
Police did not give any indication that the three shootings were related.
Six armed robberies were also reported from Saturday to Sunday, police said. Around 6:08 a.m. Saturday, a 29-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint near Chartres and Iberville streets. The victim was approached by a man with a gun demanding money. The victim complied and was forced to an ATM for additional cash, NOPD said. The suspect fled with the cash and the victim’s cell phone.
Just before 2 p.m. Saturday, a 39-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were renovating property in the 1400 block of South Gayoso Street when a man armed with a gun approached on a bike and took a wallet, cell phone and cash, NOPD said.
Around 9:42 p.m., a 55-year-old man was forced inside a residence in the 3200 block of Banks Street by two armed men who demanded money, NOPD said. The victim complied, and the suspects fled.
Just before 10:50 p.m., an 18-year-old man was leaving his vehicle near Marshall Foch and Hidalgo streets when two men and a woman approached, demanding his property. The suspects also demanded the man’s vehicle. The victim complied, and the suspects fled.
Around 11:37 p.m., a 30-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle near Columbus and North Rocheblave streets when an armed man approached her from behind, taking her car keys, NOPD said. The suspect fled in the woman’s vehicle.
The final armed robbery happened around 2:10 a.m. Sunday near Bienville and Bourbon streets in the French Quarter. Two 17-year-olds were walking in the area when they were approached from behind by a suspect armed with a knife who demanded money, NOPD said. The victims complied, and the suspect fled.
