Five people were arrested Friday for allegedly running a meth lab across the street from Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School in Kenner.
Jefferson Parish Narcotics Division deputies executed a search warrant in the 3100 block of Michigan Avenue around 10:15 p.m., according to an arrest record. Authorities found a house packed with components and precursors for a meth lab, including reagents, solvents, catalysts, scales, grinders and hazardous waste.
The house sits directly across Bruin Drive from the high school.
One of the men inside the house, Barrett Bonura, 38, allegedly told narcotics agents that the “huge” amount of waste found inside the house resulted from three years of making meth using the “one-pot” method, a small-scale process also known as “shake and bake.”
Along with Bonura, deputies arrested Richard Reva, 41; Ryan Deffes, 38; Cappel Chenevert, 40; and Jordan Bonura, 29. All were booked with running a clandestine lab in a school zone. All were also booked for methamphetamine possession, except for the younger Bonura, who deputies said did not admit to using the drug.
