1 man killed, 1 hurt in Algiers shooting
One person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Saturday night at the Garden Oaks Apartments in Algiers, New Orleans police said.
About 11 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at the apartments, 3300 Garden Oaks Drive. A 20-year-old man was lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
The other victim, a 24-year-old man who was shot in the chest, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators were gathering evidence to identify who did the shooting, as well as a motive, Officer Hilal Williams said.

Bank robbed Saturday in Gentilly Terrace
Two men robbed a Chase Bank at gunpoint Saturday morning in Gentilly Terrace, New Orleans police said.
When an employee of the bank in the 3200 block of Gentilly Boulevard opened the door about 8:30 a.m. to allow other employees in, two men entered and pulled out guns.
The robbers removed money from the vault and the cash drawer before fleeing.
Woman raped Saturday morning in Central City
A woman was raped Saturday morning by a man she knew in Central City, police said.
The sexual assault happened in the 2200 block of St. Andrew Street about 9 a.m. Police said they arrested the man believed to be responsible.
Kenner man arrested in distributing child porn
The Kenner Police Department, with assistance from State Police, arrested a man accused of repeatedly distributing child pornography, according to Kenner police Lt. Brian McGregor.
Kenner resident Wayne Gardner, 43, was arrested Friday after officers executed a search warrant at his home in the 2400 block of 21st Street. The search warrant related to an undercover operation concerning Gardner’s possessing and distributing child pornography, McGregor said.
After previewing Gardner’s computer, police said they found 27 files depicting child erotica, child pornography and file names “suggestive of child pornography.”
Gardner was arrested and booked on possession and distribution of child pornography.
He previously had been arrested in possessing pornography in November 2011 and had similar charges pending in 24th Judicial Court, McGregor said.
Gardner could face additional charges once a forensic exam of his computer is completed. As of Saturday, he remained in custody with no bail set.
Police report home invasions, burglaries
New Orleans police reported four aggravated burglaries or home invasions Saturday and early Sunday morning.
The first happened about 10 a.m. Saturday in New Orleans East. Two armed men entered a residence in the 7500 block of Trapier Avenue and demanded cash. The two fled on foot after the victim complied. Police said the victim knew the suspects.
About 12:30 p.m., a 34-year-old man answered a knock at the door of his 6th Ward home. Two men armed with guns made their way into the residence in the 2400 block of Magic Street.
The men took $3,000 in cash and fled on foot. No one was injured.
Then, about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, four masked men with guns broke in the back door of a house in the Lower 9th Ward and demanded money and guns, police said.
Two men, ages 71 and 51, were in the residence in the 1000 block of Delery Street at the time. When the 71-year-old refused to comply with the robbers’ demands, one of the men struck him several times with a gun.
The robbers fled with one gun and $1,000 in cash.
Finally, about 2 a.m. Sunday, police reported a domestic home invasion.
The victim, a 30-year-old man, told police he was in the home in the 1800 block of Bienville Street when the father of the children at the residence forced his way inside.
The father hit the victim, removed several items from the house and fled, police said.
Man and woman stabbed in St. Roch
A 30-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man were stabbed Saturday evening by a woman in the St. Roch neighborhood, police said.
The alleged perpetrator, named Shelia Gordon, was fighting with the 30-year-old victim in the 2200 block of North Derbigny Street about 5:30 p.m. when she produced a knife and stabbed the woman. Gordon then allegedly stabbed the man after he tried to break up the fight.
Man, 21, shot in Uptown park Saturday
A 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 10 p.m. Saturday in Uptown, New Orleans police said.
The victim was in a small park at St. Charles Avenue and Octavia Street when two juvenile males demanded his property.
One of them then shot him. The victim was taken to the hospital.
N.O. police report two armed robberies
Two armed robberies happened in New Orleans on Saturday night and Sunday morning, police said.
About 7:15 p.m. Saturday, a 45-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were in the 13500 block of North Lemans Street in New Orleans East when they were approached by two armed men who demanded the couple’s property and money.
After the victims complied, the men fled in a gray vehicle with two other male occupants.
Then, about 3 a.m. Sunday, a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint near Treme.
The victims were near Iberville and South Crozat streets when they were approached by a man with a handgun, police said. The man fled after taking cash from the wallet of one of the victims.
Man shot in hand in Garden District
A man was shot in the hand Saturday night in the Garden District, New Orleans police said.
The victim arrived at a hospital shortly before 10 p.m. suffering from his injury. He told police he had been shot in the 1400 block of Toledano Street.
Police were trying to determine the exact location of the shooting.
