Love and Christmas are the themes of the New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra’s upcoming concert, “Under the Mistletoe.”

Calling it a “date-night” program, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Roussel Hall, Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Ave.

NOVO will be playing Christmas music and popular love songs. Audience members are encouraged to bring someone they love to the free concert.

Founded in 2012, the all-volunteer orchestra involves more than 60 musicians and is one of the largest community orchestras in the region. Its goal is to provide high-quality classical music that is accessible to everyone and involves musicians of diverse ages and backgrounds to create concerts that entertain and excite the audience about the music. Now in its third season, this is the first season NOVO will play two full concerts in its season.

NOVO raises funds for local charities, specifically for poor and underprivileged children in New Orleans. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.
