A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after both were shot Tuesday night in Terrytown.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred in the 2100 block of Esplanade Place just after 10:30 p.m. After gunshots were reported, police received another call of a gunshot victim inside the Brothers Food Mart in the 2000 block of Carol Sue Avenue.

JPSO said officers arrived at the convenience store and found a man on the floor. The male victim, Charles Gumms, 20, walked into the store and collapsed, according to a store clerk.

When officers checked Gumms' car in the parking lot they found a woman who had been shot multiple times lying in the back of the car. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Gumms was taken to University Hospital and is in critical condition.

Homicide investigators, according to JPSO, have determined both victims were shot on Esplanade Place before arriving at the convenience store.
