Update, 8:15 a.m. Wednesday: The victim in Tuesday’s homicide in Harvey has been identified as 17-year-old Sidney Landry of Gretna, Col. John Fortunato with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Jefferson Parish officers responded to reports of gunshots Tuesday evening and found the body of a man lying on the front porch of a house, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office press release.

Around 7:32 p.m. Tuesday officers were investigating reports of gunshots near 21st Street and Tallow Tree Lane in Harvey. Early indications appear that a male victim was shot along a canal bank and managed to run a short distance on 21st St. before collapsing.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene and crime scene technicians have recovered a number of spent shell casings on the canal bank that separates Harvey and Gretna, according to the press release.
