Remains from a dog -- possibly a Jack Russell Terrier -- were found in New Orleans' City Park earlier this month by a woman walking her dog, according to a WWL-TV report.
According to the Louisiana Humane Society, the woman made the discovery of the carcass and a fire pit while on the Scout Island. The fire pit was near the fishing dock that can be seen from Diagonal Drive, a road that meets Harrison Ave at the traffic circle.
"Next to the pit was an empty bag labeled "Premium Cooking Wood." The dog's body was found in the middle of a fire pit that had been started with new 2 x 4 boards. The immediate area was surrounded by empty beer cans and a few candles. The ashes were still warm when the fire pit was discovered," according to a Humane Society statement, via WWL-TV.
Additional tests are being run to find out more details about the incident.
