Cabrini High School’s track and field team recently won the District 9-4A Championships.
Junior Tayla Celestine, of New Orleans, won three individual events — the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and the high jump — and earned District MVP honors.
Sophomore Haven Thomas, of Vacherie; senior Lisette Hrapmann, of New Orleans; and freshman Taylor Mumford, of New Orleans, joined Celestine on the winning 4x100 relay team.
Junior Blythe Smith, of Metairie, won the pole vault and finished third in the long jump. She also joined Mumford, Thomas and Hrapmann on the 4x200 relay team that finished first.
Mumford and Thomas placed first and second in the 100-meter sprint.
Senior Storey Baquet took first place in the javelin.
Hrapmann placed second in the 400-meter run.
Other Cabrini athletes who qualified for the regional meet include: prefreshman Abigail Martory, fourth place, 800-meter; sophomore Miranda Kelly, second, discus; sophomore Samantha Contreras, fourth, discus; sophomore Cayla Bean, third, high jump; senior Celeste Scheuermann, third, javelin; senior Christine O’Donnell, third, pole vault; Samantha Contreras, second, shot put; junior Shanna Young, third, shot put; and Celeste Scheuermann, fourth, 300-meter hurdles.
The 4x400 relay of junior Ana Flores, freshman Lauren Blady, Cayla Bean and sophomore Cherelle Perkins placed third.
In triple jump, senior Cydni Ward placed third, Cherelle Perkins fourth. In 3200-meter, Abigail Martory placed fourth; and Haven Thomas, second, 200-meter run.
Cabrini track and field athletes qualified for the regional meet in 17 of 18 events. Final team point totals were: Cabrini, 188; Ursuline, 123; Franklin, 106; East Jefferson, 44; Riverdale, 37; and Easton, 32.
