Police say couple poured beer into child
A Slidell couple has been arrested after allegedly pouring beer down a 1-year-old’s throat and then slapping him when he would throw up, a Slidell police spokesman said.
Brett Flower, 24, and Krysten Verdin, 23, were booked Tuesday on counts of cruelty to a juvenile after the child’s grandfather filed a complaint saying he saw signs of abuse on his grandson, Detective Daniel Seuzeneau said.
When officers began to investigate, they were told that on several occasions, Flower — not the child’s natural father — poured beer down the child’s throat, which would cause him to choke and throw up. That would prompt a slap on the back of the head from Verdin, often knocking the child down, Seuzeneau said.
Both remained in the St. Tammany jail as of Thursday morning.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services also is investigating the allegations, Seuzeneau said.
