Fire Department called to Parish Prison
The New Orleans Fire Department responded to an alarm about 4 p.m. Sunday at the Conchetta building of Orleans Parish Prison.
Philip Stelly, a spokesman for the prison, said the alarm was triggered on the third floor. He said all the inmates on that floor were safely evacuated to the building’s yard.
Firefighters were trying to determine the cause of the alarm, according to Stelly. He said he couldn’t confirm whether there had been a fire.
The Conchetta building is in the 2600 block of Tulane Avenue.
Man robbed early Sunday at knifepoint
A 20-year-old man was robbed by a knife-wielding assailant early Sunday morning, according to NOPD records.
The incident happened about 3:45 a.m. at Constitution Place and Franklin Avenue.
The victim said he was approached by a person who put a knife to his neck then took his car keys and cellphone.
No further information was available.
Man shot in N.O. East on Saturday night
A man was shot Saturday night in New Orleans East, according to police logs.
The victim, who was 18, was shot about 8:50 p.m. in the 7000 block of Bullard Avenue.
He was taken to Interim LSU Hospital. His condition was not made available.
Man shot Sunday afternoon in N.O. East
A man was shot Sunday afternoon in the 4800 block of Redwood Street, according to Officer Garry Flot, a spokesman for the Police Department. The incident happened about 2 p.m.
The man was listed in stable condition, according to Flot.
Police arrest man in choking of ex-girlfriend
A man was arrested in Central City on Saturday for choking his ex-girlfriend, according to police logs.
The incident happened about 7 a.m. in the 2700 block of Danneel Street.
Suany Garcia, 27, allegedly kicked in his former girlfriend’s door before striking her in the mouth and choking her.
The woman refused medical treatment.
Garcia fled but was arrested and booked with aggravated burglary.
Man robbed at gunpoint in CBD
A man was robbed in the Central Business District early Saturday morning, according to police records.
The robbery happened about 2:45 a.m. at Commerce and Lafayette streets.
The victim, 27, was approached by a man with a gun, who took his money and ID.
