NORDC hosts Park and Recreation Month to make local residents’ lives and communities better.
During Park and Recreation Month, and throughout the year, NORDC’s recreation activities and parks allow people to be active, live heathier, connect with nature and gather together.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month, NORDC will host an old-school ’80s-style Family Fun Walk featuring a 2.2-mile walk around Pontchartrain Park at 6500 Press Drive on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The walk will have breaks for fun activities including hula hooping, jump rope, sack race, basketball, tennis, golf and baseball. There also will be raffle prizes. The event is free, and attendees are encouraged to dress in ’80s-themed attire.
Park and Recreation Month was created by the National Recreation and Park Association in 1985 to promote the importance of parks and recreation.
