Update: The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office identified Dedrick Marshall, 48, of Harvey as a suspect in Friday's officer involved shooting. According to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office release, Marshall confronted his ex-girlfriend, a man she was with and second couple with a child outside the grocery store and threatened them with a gun. Deputy Justin McLin later went to Marshall's home where the shooting took place.
A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy fatally shot a man late Friday in Harvey, authorities said.
It was the agency’s fifth officer-involved shooting of the year.
Details of the incident in the 3000 block of Destrehan Avenue remained sketchy, but Col. John Fortunato, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute that occurred Friday night at a grocery store.
A deputy had been following up on that incident when he encountered the armed man, Fortunato said.
The deputy said the suspect raised his weapon at the deputy and appeared to squeeze the trigger, though the weapon did not fire, Fortunato said. The deputy then fired his weapon once.
The names of the suspect and deputy were not immediately released. The armed man was pronounced dead at the scene.
