BASTILLE DAY F Ê TE: A free festival celebrating Bastille Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Spanish Plaza at the foot of Canal Street, New Orleans.

Bastille Day is the French national day, commemorating the storming of the Bastille, a fortress prison in Paris, on July 14, 1789. This event marked the first step toward bringing democracy to France.

At Spanish Plaza, there will be a water show on the river, a dog costume contest and tours of the Gen. Roy S. Kelley fireboat, along with live music from Sunpie & The Louisiana Sunspots, TMonde and the Hot 8 Brass Band.
