JEFFERSON PARISH HUMAN SERVICES AUTHORITY: Rose A. Gilbert, of Harahan, has joined the board of directors of the Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority. Gilbert is administrative manager of the SUNS Center, which helps charter schools provide appropriate educational services to at-risk students.

Other members of the board are Albert F. Majeau Jr., Logan Williamson, Olga M. Bogran, Paula LaCour, Robert Bradley, Dede Lyman-Redfearn, Michael Spinato, Rafael Saddy, LaCresiea Olivier, Rashain Carriere-Williams and Quin Bates.

The Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority provides integrated primary care, behavioral health services and developmental disabilities services, as well as support to children, adults and families who are residents of Jefferson Parish and who meet basic eligibility criteria.

SENIOR WELLNESS SYMPOSIUM: Belleville Assisted Living and the St. Margaret’s Foundation will host a free Senior Health and Wellness Symposium for seniors ages 55 and up from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 4, at Belleville Assisted Living, 813 Pelican Ave., New Orleans. Industry experts will make presentations on topics including fatigue, bone loss, memory loss, loneliness and depression.

SIBLING TLC: This free class to help prepare children 3 and older for the arrival of a new baby in the family will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. At least one adult must attend this class with the child. Preregistration is required. For information, call (504) 349-6200.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP: Neuropsychologist Susan Andrews will be the speaker when the Big Easy Fleur de Lis Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, in the Esplanade 1 Room of the Conference Center at East Jefferson General Hospital. STROKE EDUCATION: Group classes on prevention and treatment of stroke are presented every Friday at 2:30 p.m. at West Jefferson Medical Center, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., Marrero. BLUE DOO RUN: The Tulane Cancer Center will host the NOLA Blue Doo Run, a 2-mile walk/run to support Tulane’s Prostate Cancer Research Fund, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Tulane University.

Participants are encouraged to costume in blue — the color of prostate cancer awareness — for the event, which is being held in partnership with the New Orleans Track Club. A party featuring complimentary food, beverages and New Orleans-style entertainment by The Original Royal Street Players will follow the run.
