Man pleads not guilty in Metairie murder

Pedro Monterroso-Navas, who is accused of beating his girlfriend to death in their Metairie apartment in July, pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of second-degree murder.

Monterroso, 44, was extradited from Texas on July 18 after he was found in a trailer park in a Houston suburb with two of the couple’s children.

Man thrown from car in St. Charles crash

A passenger in a speeding Dodge Charger was not wearing a seat belt late Saturday when he was thrown from the car and killed, State Police said.

Charles Green, 20, of St. Rose, died at the scene of the wreck about 11 p.m. Saturday on La. 626 in St. Charles Parish.

Christopher Lymous, 19, of St. Rose, was driving the 2009 Charger south on La. 626 when he veered into the northbound lane, Trooper 1st Class Melissa Matey said.

Lymous lost control when he tried to pull back into the southbound lane. The Charger barreled off the road, slamming into a ditch and several trees. The car flipped and ejected Green, who had been riding as a passenger in the front seat.

Both Lymous and a passenger in the back, Justin Houston, 18, of St. Rose, reported minor injuries, Matey said. None of the men was wearing a seat belt.

Troopers suspect Lymous was speeding but not drunk, she said. Nonetheless, troopers will conduct a toxicology test on blood taken from Lymous.
