Award-winning journalist, instructor of writing, playwright and novelist Chere Dastugue Coen will be visiting the Nix Library to discuss her work. Coen is the author of “Forest Hill, Louisiana: A Bloom Town History,” “Haunted Lafayette, Louisiana,” “Exploring Cajun Country: A Historic Tour of Acadiana” and co-author of “Magic’s in the Bag: Creating Spellbinding Gris Gris Bags and Sachets.” This program will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nix Library, 1401 South Carrollton Avenue.

YOUTH CAN CAST THEIR VOTE: Children and teens can make their voice heard at Alvar Library, 913 Alvar St., during our Mock Election. Come and cast your vote for the programs you would like to see at the Alvar Library. Cast your vote on a real voting machine Saturday, Nov. 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

COMPUTER ASSISTANCE: Every Saturday, the staff at the Rosa F. Keller Library and Community Center, 4300 South Broad St., offers one-on-one computer assistance from 10 a.m. to noon. Assistance includes answering questions about Internet use, general computer skills, online Web searching, software use and accessing resources available through the library using various electronic devices.

THANKSGIVING CLOSING: All New Orleans Public Library locations will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 26, and will be closed all day Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28.
