The council took up a vote Thursday on a controversial ordinance that would restore their insurance plans. It was a big political showdown in the little city of Harahan, where there's a $1 million deficit on a $6 million budget.

Council members unpopularily voted 3-1 to extend themselves full health insurance coverage and to give themselves additional powers to set special meeting agendas.

Harahan Mayor Tina Miceli stripped the city council of health insurance last month, setting up the battle which led to Thursday's vote.
