Police released ATM surveillance video on Tuesday of a man they believe may have robbed and sexually assaulted a woman in Bayou St. John last month, one of a series of disturbingly similar attacks.

The surveillance video shows a man attempting to use the credit card of a woman, 28, who was robbed and raped on Sept. 23 in the 800 block of North Lopez Street. Police said the man entered the victim’s home with a gun, demanded her property and then sexually assaulted her.

Police have said that attack could possibly be connected to as many as three more similar sexual assaults and one attempted sexual assault.

The suspect in the Bayou St. John attack matched a description similar to those of assailants in at least two other attacks. He was described as a black male, in his early 20’s or 30’s, 6’ tall, about 185 pounds, and of slim build with a dark complexion. Police said he was last seen wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, light color jacket, grey shorts and tennis shoes.

Special Victims Detective Herman Franklin is leading the investigation of the Bayou St. John sexual assault and can be reached at (504) 658-5523.
