• MOUNT CARMEL: Mount Carmel Academy senior Brooke Petkovich, of Kenner, has accepted a track and field scholarship to compete for Northwestern State University. While at Mount Carmel, Petkovich has set several track records. She holds the indoor 60-meter sprint record, the 60-meter hurdle record, the 55-meter hurdle record and the triple jump record. Brooke also has won third in state in indoor track in triple jump the past two years. She has been named to the All-State and All-District teams. In outdoor track, she holds the 100-meter hurdle record and the triple jump record.
  • Senior Paige Franckiewicz, of Slidell, recently signed to play basketball for Loyola University. While at MCA, Franckiewicz, an honor student, averaged 15.3 points per game and made 60 three-point shots.
  • Senior Samantha Dares, of Metairie, has signed to play softball for Nicholls State University in the 2016-17 school year. Gearing up to play her senior year for the Cubs, Dares already has been named All-Metro MVP, All-District MVP and to the All-State team multiple times.
  • ARCHBISHOP CHAPELLE HIGH SCHOOL: Archbishop Chapelle High School Senior Kayla Jones was selected to the All-State team for volleyball. The All-State banquet for Louisiana volleyball was Jan. 10 in Baton Rouge. The 40 student-athletes on the All-State team were voted on by coaches from across the state.
  • CABRINI HIGH SCHOOL: Cabrini seniors Bailey Hepting and Rakell Spencer were named to the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association All-State volleyball team. Hepting and Spencer led the Crescents to the state championship finals and a 28-10 overall record against many of the top volleyball teams in Louisiana. The two will be honored at the LVCA annual banquet Jan. 10 in Baton Rouge. “Both Bailey and Rakell are exceptional women and athletes,” said head volleyball coach Kasey Laird. “They are positive examples to not only their team but their school and community of what the true student athlete should encompass.”
