A man who died Sunday after he crashed his Jeep into a tree in Lakeview has been identified as 60-year-old Douglas Doyle.

Doyle was driving east on West Harrison Avenue when he lost control of his Jeep Liberty and hit a tree about 9 a.m., said officer Hilal Williams, a Police Department spokeswoman.

Doyle was brought to Interim LSU Public Hospital and died at 9:14 a.m. from a skull fracture and internal injuries, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish coroner’s chief investigator.

Doyle was a former Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office lieutenant, said Col. John Fortunato, a sheriff’s office spokesman. He retired in November 2012.

Toxicology tests are pending.
