Woman claims assault after passing out
New Orleans police are investigating a report of a sexual assault involving a woman who said Monday morning that she passed out after visiting the French Quarter and woke up at a motel she did not recognize.
The 22-year-old woman told police that, after having a few drinks, she passed out while sitting at the corner of Canal and Bourbon streets waiting for her boyfriend to retrieve their vehicle. The next thing she remembered was an unknown man approaching her and asking whether she needed to use his phone, said Tyler Gamble, a New Orleans police spokesman.
The man then offered to take the woman to a motel room to use the phone, Gamble said.
The woman said she woke up in a motel room several hours later, lying next to a man she did not know, police said. She said she left the motel and got in touch with her boyfriend, later going to the hospital to undergo a sexual assault exam.
She said she did not recognize the motel and was unable to provide a description of the man or his clothing, Gamble said.
Police arrest sisters in N.O. East assault
New Orleans police arrested two sisters in connection with an assault that occurred Monday morning in New Orleans East.
Police said Reginique Brown, 20, and Calviona Brown, 25, got into a fight with another pair of sisters, ages 32 and 30, in a parking lot at Lake Forest Boulevard and Bundy Road about 10 a.m. The victims tried to escape in their car as Calviona Brown hit their car with a baseball bat and Reginique Brown pointed a pistol at them, police said.
The Brown sisters then got in their car and allegedly sped after the victims before crashing into a fence near Crowder Boulevard and the North Interstate 10 Service Road.
Calviona Brown was booked on a count of aggravated assault with a bat and Reginique Brown on aggravated assault with a firearm.
NOPD arrests 2 on gun and drugs possession
The New Orleans Police Department arrested two men and booked them on gun and drug charges Monday night.
Jake Ross, 31, and Aaron Henderson, 20, were arrested about 10 p.m. after officers on patrol stopped their vehicle at Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road and found a gun and drugs, according to police.
Ross was booked on counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and marijuana, possession of marijuana and a parole violation.
Henderson was booked on possession of a firearm with marijuana and possession of marijuana.
LSP: Woman found with 1.7 pounds of coke
Louisiana State Police arrested a Marrero woman Tuesday morning in Calcasieu Parish when they said they found 1.7 pounds of powdered cocaine in her trunk.
Troopers said they pulled over Lindsay Billiot’s 2010 Nissan Altima near Sulphur just after 1 a.m. for a traffic violation. Billiot wouldn’t let the troopers search her car, but a drug-sniffing dog named Hugo indicated drugs were in the car.
Troopers said they found cocaine in the trunk with an estimated street value of $73,700. Billiot was booked on counts of improper vehicle equipment and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
NOPD looking for man in home invasion
New Orleans police are looking for a man they said invaded his ex-girlfriend’s house to confront her new boyfriend.
The incident occurred about 10:20 p.m. March 2 when Dwight Mitchell arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s home in the 7600 block of Alabama Street.
Mitchell, 34, pushed his way into the house, police said, and he and the woman’s current boyfriend started fighting. The boyfriend was able to grab a handgun that was in Mitchell’s waistband, and Mitchell fled, police said.
Man is cut at Canal and Royal streets
A 63-year-old man was attacked by another man wielding a glass bottle Monday afternoon at Canal and Royal Streets, police said.
The two men got into a fight about 2 p.m. and the attacker struck the man with a glass bottle, according to police. The man was treated a hospital.
Three men robbed Monday in Mid-City
Three men — ages 27, 27 and 28 — who were standing outside a home in Mid-City were robbed Monday evening, police said.
A vehicle parked near a home in the 300 block of South Dorgenois Street about 8:30 p.m., according to police. Two men got out and asked for a cigarette. Both then pulled guns and forced the three men to lie on the ground and give up their belongings.
The robbers then fled the scene.
Two men robbed in French Quarter park
Two men, ages 33 and 40, were robbed Monday evening while walking in Woldenberg Riverfront Park about 9 p.m.
Two men came up to them and one pulled out a gun and demanded money, according to police. The other robber punched the 33-year-old victim and took both victims’ belongings. The robbers then fled the scene.
