Amateur musicians from throughout the New Orleans area enjoyed a day of rehearsal and performance with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra recently through the LPO’s Play Dat! program.

More than 175 amateur and professional musicians gathered on a Saturday morning at Holy Cross School for 21/2 hours of rehearsal. After a lunch break, it was time for the performance, led by LPO music director and principal conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto.

The music included “Les Toreadors” from Suite No. 1 from “Carmen” by Georges Bizet; “Mars” from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst; “The Pines of the Appian Way,” from “Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi; the main theme from “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt; and highlights from “Jurassic Park” by John Williams.
