Rocket science was the topic for the STEM Saturday event with Calvin Mackie on May 9 at the Joe Brown Recreation Center in New Orleans.
More than 175 youths learned about Newton’s Laws of Motion and the fundamentals of rockets while participating in hands-on activities to build and launch rockets. NASA provided a demonstration of a rocket engine.
Collaboration, critical thinking and communicating are part of Mackie’s approach at the learning events that involve college students and other STEM professionals from the New Orleans area.
The next STEM Saturday will be July 11 at the Lyons Center in Uptown New Orleans. Registration will open June 27 at www.stemnola.com.
