A woman was raped by an intruder who broke into her home in the St. Roch neighborhood early Monday morning, the third such attack in New Orleans in less than a week, police said.

Police said an unknown person entered the woman’s residence in the 2200 block of North Villere Street about 1 a.m. Monday. They provided no further information on the assault in a preliminary offense log.

On Thursday, a woman said she was raped inside her residence in the 6000 block of Chartres Street in Holy Cross about 1 p.m. And on Wednesday, a woman told police she was raped about 7:45 a.m. by a man who broke into her house in the 800 block of North Lopez Street in Bayou St. John.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said detectives are working on all three cases but are not ready to make a statement on whether they might be connected.

Police also said a 27-year-old woman was raped by a male acquaintance in the 5500 block of Wingate Drive about 2 a.m. Monday.

Harrison said that of the 12 sexual assaults recorded this month, half have involved unknown assailants.
