WWL-TV reports that Sue Ellen Lyons, a science teacher at Holy Cross and Louisiana's first female wrestling coach, has resigned amid allegations of misconduct with a student that occurred more than 25 years ago.

Holy Cross headmaster Charles DiGange wrote in an email to parents and alumni that Lyons is no longer employed at the school.

According to her bio on the school's website, Lyons began her teaching career in 1966 and was in her 50th year of teaching (her 38th at Holy Cross). She was chairperson of the school's science department and was an assistant athletic director.

Lyons has received multiple teaching awards, the school says, including "LA Biology Teacher of the Year, the Owen R. Hopkins Earth Science Teacher of the Year for the Geological Society of America, the LA Science Teacher of the Year, the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and the National Wetlands Educator of the Year Award."
