Alleged rapist suspended from job

A city government employee was arrested and booked on a count of rape over the weekend, and he’s been suspended from his job without pay, city spokesman Brad Howard said.

Chad Sanders, 32, was arrested Saturday morning after the sexual assault was reported about 7:30 a.m. in the 300 block of City Park Avenue. According to police, the female victim was sexually assaulted by Sanders, a “male acquaintance.”

Sanders was working on the city’s midnight basketball program for young people.

State Police arrest six in drug bust

State Police arrested six suspected drug dealers Saturday in a raid on an alleged drug distribution house in New Orleans.

After they received a warrant, troopers raided the home on St. Anthony Street and found cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, LSD, Xanax, psilocybin mushrooms and other drugs, according to a State Police news release.

The six men, ranging in age from 26 to 38, were booked on several counts each of possession of Schedule I and II drugs.

One arrested, one still wanted in carjacking

New Orleans police arrested one person and are looking for another in connection with a carjacking Wednesday in New Orleans East.

Irving Lee, 17, was arrested Sunday at his home on Sierra Madre Drive after detectives received a Crimestoppers tip identifying him as one of the suspects. He was booked on counts of carjacking and illegal possession of stolen things.

About 6 p.m. Wednesday, one of two men pushed a 68-year-old woman to the ground as she tried to enter her 2006 Toyota Camry in the 7000 block of Read Boulevard. The two then drove off in the car, which was found later in the 14500 block of Duane Road, police said.

Police arrest tourist in theft from car

New Orleans police Monday arrested a 30-year-old Mardi Gras visitor for allegedly burglarizing a car on the edge of the French Quarter.

A witness reported seeing Phillip Brett, of New South Wales, Australia, pulling on the doors of parked cars in the area of 300 North Rampart Street about 8:30 a.m. After the witness spoke to him, Brett broke into a parked gold Honda Accord, according to police.

After police arrived and apprehended Brett, detectives found several items allegedly stolen from the Honda. He told police he was in town for Mardi Gras.

Police arrest man in auto burglary

New Orleans arrested Carlos Manzano, 41, in connection with a Sunday morning auto burglary.

A man said he and some friends were walking to his car, which was in a lot in the 1500 block of Canal Street, about 5:30 a.m. As he got closer, the man said, he spotted someone in his car.

The thief tried to get away, but the owner of the car pulled him to the ground and detained him until police arrived. Manzano was booked on counts of auto burglary and possession of stolen things.

Man arrested after alleged drug deal

The NOPD arrested Roderick Foucha, 30, after what officers believed to be a drug transaction Sunday near North Claiborne and Esplanade avenues.

Two officers were patrolling the area about 5 p.m. when they observed what appeared to be a drug transaction between a pedestrian and the driver of a late-model silver Nissan Altima. When the officers activated their lights and siren, the pedestrian fled on foot while the Altima sped off at a high rate of speed.

The driver bailed out of the vehicle near North Roman Street and Esplanade but was apprehended. The driver, later identified as Foucha, was found to be in possession of a loaded .45-caliber pistol and a large amount of cash, police said. The pistol had been reported stolen in Georgia in 2014.

Foucha was booked on illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and flight from an officer.

The unidentified pedestrian was never located.
