Union Pacific recently made a donation of $5,000 to support the West Jefferson Street Tree Planting Project.

The grant money from the Union Pacific Foundation will be used by the West Jefferson Tree Planting Project to plant 30, 45-gallon live oak trees on the Westbank Expressway from Westwood Drive to Victory Drive in Marrero at a total cost of $30,000.

A similar project was completed last year from Garden Road to Westwood Drive on the median of Westbank Expressway.

Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful Secretary Joe Baucum thanked Drew Tessier, Union Pacific Railroad’s director of public affairs for the donation which will be used to purchase, plant and maintain the planned trees.

Baucum, who also serves as the West Jefferson Street Tree Planting Project Coordinator, said the finished project will be an invaluable asset to the west bank of Jefferson Parish.
