The 116 students in the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts Class of 2014 have received more than $17.4 million in scholarship offers from the most prestigious colleges and arts conservatories in the country. This figure averages more than $150,000 per student, not including state TOPS awards. This year, the arts conservatory has the highest per capita and total scholarship awards in its history.

One of those completing their studies this year is vocalist Victor Paz, of Arabi in St. Bernard Parish. Although Paz has been studying opera at NOCCA for only two years, he has been accepted to one of the top vocal music performance programs in the country: Mannes College, The New School for Music, in New York.

Paz also excels academically at Chalmette High, where he ranks in the top 10 percent of his class. After college, he hopes to travel the world as a professional opera singer.
