The Loyola University College of Law is offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program again this year to provide free volunteer income tax-preparation assistance for people with low to moderate incomes.
Sessions will be offered at Loyola and in St. Bernard Parish.
The walk-in sessions at Loyola, designed by the Internal Revenue Service, begin Monday and continue through April 9.
They will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at the Loyola College of Law, 526 Pine St., Room 111.
No sessions are scheduled for Feb. 4 through Feb. 8 because of the Mardi Gras holidays or March 24 through March 28 due to the Easter holidays.
Taxpayers will need to bring the following items: government-issued IDs; Social Security cards for every person included on the tax returns; all tax documents, including W-2 and 1099 forms and Social Security statements; and their prior year’s tax returns and documents.
A new requirement this year is information regarding insurance coverage as required under the Affordable Care Act. Taxpayers also will have to bring information regarding health insurance coverage for each member of their households in addition to Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement.
Loyola’s Volunteer Tax Assistance Program is affiliated with the Asset Building Coalition of Southeast Louisiana and the American Bar Association.
