A new art club is being formed. Brushes, Buddies and Beyond for Autism is a creative experience for individuals on the autism spectrum ages 16 years and older. This fun club recently began and will meet through Nov. 18 at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 115 East D’Amour St., Chalmette.
Novices and seasoned artists are welcome. BBBA hopes to close the gap for recreational activities for people with autism by providing the opportunity to express themselves and engage with others.
Participants will receive many benefits including how to paint in a fun, relaxed environment while receiving step-by-step instruction from master artist Jeff Duke; have the opportunity to complete two paintings; showcase and possibly sell their artwork at a gallery (and receive the proceeds from the sale).
Volunteer support will be available for assistance and new friends can be made. The club is co-sponsored by the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans and Brushes, Buddies and Beyond by JBJ Creations.
Most importantly, the club will help improve the individual’s capacity for learning, increase self-expression and self-esteem through art while building sensory integration skills.
Registration is $20 per person. There is a maximum of 24 persons for the class. For information, call (504) 464-5733 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
