Pedestrian robbery, shooting investigated
New Orleans — New Orleans police are investigating a robbery Monday night that ended with the victim getting shot.
The incident was reported shortly after 8 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Villere Street. The victim said two men approached him on foot while he was walking, and one of the men was waving a gun. The gunman demanded the victim’s cash and then shot him, according to a preliminary report.
Man shot while driving in Algiers
Algiers — New Orleans police are investigating the shooting of a man on Monday afternoon at a busy Algiers intersection.
The incident happened near the intersection of General de Gaulle Drive and L.B. Landry Street shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to police. The victim said he was driving his vehicle when he was shot five times. He was taken to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition on Tuesday.
Police did not release a motive or suspect in the shooting.
It was the second shooting in Algiers in as many days. Police were already investigating a shooting in the 500 block of Socrates Street. In that incident, Jared Adams, 34, was shot in the hip and died on Monday from the wound.
Police book man, 33, in 4th DWI offense
Westwego — A Westwego man was arrested for the fourth time this year after Westwego police found him slumped over in his still-running car after it ran off the road Sunday night.
Lonnie LeBouef Sr., 33, was booked with driving while intoxicated-fourth offense, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to maintain proper control and no seat belt.
Officers responding to a report of a vehicle that had driven into a ditch near the intersection of Tanglewood Drive and Lapalco Boulevard found LeBouef, according to an arrest report. LeBouef was found with the car still in drive while he dozed, the report stated.
When officers searched LeBouef’s car, they found a vodka bottle that was three-quarters empty.
Police arrest manin armed robbery
New Orleans — A 26-year-old man was booked with armed robbery after New Orleans police say he stole another man’s wallet at gunpoint Monday afternoon on Bourbon Street.
Quincy Jones was arrested in the 700 block of Burgundy Street shortly after the incident, which occurred in the 800 block of Bourbon Street.
The victim said Jones pushed him in the back then pulled a gun.
Jones then stole the man’s wallet and cash before fleeing on foot, according to a preliminary report.
Gretna man, 63, booked in assault
Gretna — A Gretna man is in custody after Gretna police say he pulled a revolver on his son during an argument at their home.
Daniel Hoobler, 63, was booked with aggravated assault after being arrested at his home in the 700 block of Fairfield Avenue. Hoobler and his son were arguing for an unknown reason Sunday when Hoobler became enraged and grabbed his gun, according to a report. He then pointed it at his son and told him to leave their home, the report said.
The two men had been living together since 1998.
Hoobler was arrested without incident.
Trooper nabs man in vehicle crash
Harvey — An Avondale man was arrested Monday after a Louisiana state trooper said the man crashed into his patrol vehicle while it was parked.
The incident happened in the 2300 block of Oakmere Drive in Harvey. The trooper reported that he was sitting inside his home when he heard a loud boom, and went outside to see that his patrol vehicle had been struck, and the other driver appeared to be fleeing the scene.
The trooper was able to catch the other car, which had some damage, and detained Salvadore Tornabene, 48. According to an arrest report, Tornabene appeared to be intoxicated.
