The Krewe of Isis will move its Saturday parade to Monday night if Jefferson Parish officials decide the weather calls for it, Parish President Mike Yenni said Wednesday.

Isis, which is set to roll in Metairie at 6:30 p.m., is the only parade scheduled for Saturday along the Veterans Boulevard route.

Monday night has been dark on Jefferson's parade schedule since the Krewe of Zeus rolled for the last time in 2015.

The Krewe of Centurions will also bump up its start time to 6:30 p.m. Friday. It was previously scheduled to roll at 7 p.m.

Sheriff Joe Lopinto asked anyone working or shopping along Veterans to leave a little earlier that day to allow deputies time to prepare the route for the parade.

Yenni admitted the possibility of high winds and up to 2 inches of rain has been “a downer” for Carnival season but said the parish and krewes just need to do the best they can.

“You plan all year long for this major event, to put on a great street parade for the public, and then unfortunately have the weather either shift you to another night or possibly even cancel your parade,” Yenni said.

He also said that officials will determine what will happen with Sunday parades after a weather briefing at 2 p.m. Thursday. Three krewes are scheduled to roll Sunday: Napoleon at 4:30 p.m., Athena at 5:30 p.m. and Pandora at 6:30 p.m.

It's possible that the Bonnabel Boulevard and Severn Avenue spurs along the route could be eliminated if the parades need to be shortened to work around the weather, Yenni said.
